Precious Blood Returns and EMHC Training

Starting with the weekend Masses April 22-23, we will offer Holy Communion in both species, that is you will have the option to receive the Precious Blood in addition to the consecrated host. The Church has always held that in the Eucharistic host one receives during the Communion Rite is the fullness of Christ’s Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity. Therefore, it is not necessary to receive the cup containing the Precious Blood. However, for those of you who want to drink from the cup, you will now have that option again. There is a list in the narthex for you to sign up if you are interested in serving as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion (EMHC). Please check the appropriate box on the form to let me know if you are an experienced EMHC or if you want to become one for the first time. By signing this list, you are committing yourself to being available at any Holy Day of Obligation, Vigil or Sunday Mass at which you are present. There will be a mandatory training session for all experienced and inexperienced EMHCs. Two sessions will be offered. The first will be on Thursday, April 13 at 7:00 P.M. The second will be offered on Saturday, April 15 at 11:00 A.M. Everyone must attend at least one of these two training sessions in order to be an EMHC.
